Remember that one time that I told you about an upcoming staycation I was going to take with my sister?
And remember that time I shared all of the pictures with you? Oh wait, that’s right now.
You guys, we had so much fun! We stayed at the Comfort Inn and Suites® in McMinnville, which is right smack dab in the middle of beautiful Yamhill County, Oregon. Around here, Yamhill County is known as the “wine country” of Oregon. It’s only about an hour or so outside of the city, so it’s easy to get away and spend some quality time in the countryside.
We arrived Friday evening, later than we had hoped, and grabbed some food in town on our way to the hotel. I was exhausted by the time we parked the car, but I perked up when we checked in and I heard mention of cookies. After a restful night’s sleep in a bed topped with both soft AND firm pillows (they know what I like), I was ready to explore the area!
First up: The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum!
Seriously, what a gem! I couldn’t believe I had never had the chance to check this place out. Even if you think you’re not into planes, there’s plenty to see here if you pay attention.
Oh, and did I mention that there’s a water park!? I kid you not, they have a water slide that comes out of an airplane that’s just hanging out on top of the building. You can see the plane in the third picture above, it has green stripes and is… uh.. sitting on top of a building.
After the museum, we figured it was late enough in the day to start wine tasting.
We visited shops in the little town of Newberg, looked at some antiques in Dundee, and took a nap at the hotel before we went to dinner. We decided to get fancy with our bad selves and enjoy a meal of fine French cuisine at Cuvee. Unfortunately I forgot to take any pictures because I was too busy stuffing my face.
In lieu of dessert, we thought we’d sample some of the local beer offerings. We made our way over to Golden Valley Brew Pub to enjoy a little tasting.
We were a bit overwhelmed by this undertaking.
Needless to say, when I woke up the next morning I was on the prowl for some serious breakfast.
Luckily, our hotel was equipped with one of the best complimentary hotel breakfasts I’ve ever encountered. Just look at those adorable baby waffles!
After breakfast we were feeling up to checking out a few of the vineyards and tasting rooms in the area. My mom even showed up to join us!
So typical of Emily to be making a funny face in this picture!
We decided to visit the “treehouse” tasting room at Vista Hills Vineyard.
Because it’s Oregon, it started to rain… but the view was still beautiful!
Choice Hotels really made this trip easy to put together – from booking the trip using the Choice Hotels app, to earning loyalty rewards with Choice Privileges, planning this get-together was an absolute breeze!
This trip was all about spending time with family. It’s so strange how you can live close to loved ones, yet somehow you keep putting off spending quality time with them. I was super excited to have the opportunity to enjoy this little stay-cation, and connect with my sister and my mom!
In full disclosure, Choice Hotels sponsored this post and paid for my trip. As always, all text, photos, and opinions are my own! Thank you for supporting the sponsors that support The Wanderlust Kitchen!
