Somehow, over the years, I forgot about gelato.
I’m not sure how this was possible. Ten years ago I regularly visited this little gelato shop in downtown Portland and order their “affogato gelato,” which was essentially a shot of espresso poured over a cup of cold, creamy gelato. It was pretty much heaven on earth.
It was only last month when I was in Paris with my sister that I rediscovered my love for gelato. When I got home, I made a beeline for the frozen aisle at my local grocery store and grabbed a container of gelato which caught my eye. I’ve been going through this stuff like CRAZY (and saving the containers for… something I haven’t figured out yet).
Since I’m always shopping for different recipe ingredients, I frequent a wide variety of grocery stores and I love that I can always find Talenti no matter where I’m shopping. Be forewarned: this stuff also comes in quarts and half-gallon sizes so PREPARE YOURSELVES.
Imagine my surprise when Talenti contacted me about sharing their gelato on the blog! I let them know that I’m a HUGE fan and always have a stash in my freezer, and they were nice enough to send over a few pints of my favorite of their 33 flavors: Coffee Toffee. I’ve been known to polish off a container of this stuff on a Friday night (wild social life, I know), but since Talenti sent me THREE pints I decided to share the wealth and brought the goods over to my niece’s 5th birthday party. Needless to say, my family and I scarfed this stuff down like it was going out of style. We started by politely spooning some into separate dishes, but after a few minutes we were eating straight out of the pints.
The sweet, sticky goodness must have made us all silly, because I let my niece paint my face and was then talked into going on the slip-and-slide with her. Just look at how comfortable I am. That is the face of a woman enjoying herself. My sister Emily (left) and my niece and nephew were much better sports than I was.
Please don’t ask me why my mom is dressed as a fortune teller and my sister is dressed as a bearded lady. I really couldn’t tell you.
It was so nice of Talenti to hook us up with such a treat! We all agreed that it’s easy to see why Talenti is the best-selling gelato in the U.S. And not just because I buy 3 or 4 pints of it per week 😉
