The big day is finally here! After 14 weeks of remodeling and 3 weeks of moving in we are settled in the new house and ready to break it in with a big party. Who’s coming over!?
I chronicled our successes and failures in the 8-part House Remodel Series.
I was surprised at how many personal comments I received on that post, most of which were highly supportive. Here on the blog, as well as “in real life,” I’ve had people ask me why I want to change the house that my dad loved so much.
Well, the reason why is because I love it so much. I wanted to give the house some love, replace all the cigarette-smoke damaged fixtures and finishes, and make it into a home that will be loved for another generation.
I’m proud of the work that we put in to this place, and I’m really looking forward to hosting big family holidays in a house that hasn’t seen a party in more than a quarter century.
I had the opportunity to start nearly from scratch and create a home that works for us. Every morning I wake up, look out the window at the beautiful view, and nearly have to pinch myself to believe that this is real life.
Now, without further adieu, get ready for a TON of pictures coming right at you!
Here’s a collage of “before” pictures:

And here’s one of the “after” pictures:
Now, here’s a bunch more room-by-room shots!
This is a view from my office looking towards the front door:

Here’s the dining room and entry way before, during, and after the remodel…

The living room before and after…

And the kitchen. Oh my lord, the KITCHEN. If I could sleep in there I would.
It’s basically my greatest accomplishment in life. Sorry, MBA.

Here’s where I have my coffee in the morning:

We had the fireplace renovated with cultured stone. What do you think?

Don’t you love the beautiful eating bar?

I just love it here.

The house looks fantastic what a beautiful place to call your home, love the views, love it all. xx
Thank you, June! The view is definitely the best part 🙂
Whoops, sorry. I see it took 14 weeks.
What an accomplishment! You must be so proud. And it looks fabulous. I haven’t been following you for long, so I haven’t seen all the stages. How long did it take and how much of the work did you do yourselves? It’s amazing what can be done with an older out – of – date home.
Thank you, Shirley! I really appreciate your support 🙂
Oh, and you can read about how we did all the work right here: https://thewanderlustkitchen.com/develop-home-remodel-timeline-budget/
Good for you. It’s wonderful to see someone accomplish a goal and be so happy with the outcome. You did a fantastic job. Thank you for sharing all of your personal posts and photos. Your light radiates through your words.
Thank you!! I’m so glad you like it 🙂
I am totally gobsmacked! You and your husband are geniuses. Your home is incredible. Congratulations on a phenomenal job. I’d sleep in that kitchen, too. Yes, love the renovated fireplace. Love it all. Enjoy! Cheers, Ardith
What a sweet comment, Ardith!! I have to admit, there were a few times throughout the process that I questioned myself and thought “oh crap, is this really all going to pull together?!”
