House Remodel Fixtures and Finishes!

Follow along as one food blogger's house undergoes a $100,000 renovation!

Wow, things have been CRUISING along over at the new house these past few weeks! Today I’m sharing updates on some of our house remodel projects, as well as some sneak peek photos of a few of our fixtures and finishes.

This is the last post before I start sharing the FINAL before and after shots!

Alright, let’s get right into those updates + photos:

We (and by we I mean ME because the husband lets me pick everything :)) are having a wonderful time picking out all of the finishing touches for the house.

I picked the medium grey subway tile on the left to wrap around our downstairs bathroom tub surround, and the fun blue glass mosaic for the upstairs bathroom backsplash. It reminds me of Greece, and I just get happy when I look at it 🙂

Things have been a little crazy at times, but we’re powering through and racing towards the home stretch!

We tore that weird half wall down, lowered the dining room floor, and installed the light fixture in the entryway. The fixture looks very BLAH right now but wait until you see the finished product.

I can’t wait for our new front door to arrive!

The stairs are coming along SO SLOWLY. Just about everyone in my family has worn themselves out with the sanding process, so I’m trying to power through and get the rest of it done. I’ve been worshiping Americanos like it’s my job.

The goal is to sand all of the oak bull-nosing left on the stairs to get it back to it’s beautiful natural color. Then, we’ll seal the wood and place our new oak-look laminate on the treads and risers where the green carpet used to be. Cross your fingers that it doesn’t look cray-cray when it’s done.

The bathtub from the blue lagoon is OUTTA THERE and we’re working on getting the new flooring in the upstairs bathroom we can set the tub and I can take three baths per day (on average).

The Master Bath shower has been refinished to cover the old weird faux marble pattern on the walls and floor. It is now BRIGHT white and feels brand new.

The downstairs bathroom went through a similar treatment. The top picture shows the tub and surround area with the old (PINK!) tub surround already torn out. That weird stuff on the walls is leftover adhesive. The tub didn’t look all that bad until we put in the new bright white surround.

Suddenly, the tub looked hideously brown (I think people like to call it “almond”), so obviously I had to have the downstairs tub refinished to be bright white, too. Worth every penny!

Now I just need to get the new tub filler/showerhead/etc. installed and it will be fully operational.

Our new cabinets are going in! Vaughn over at VLH Construction has been a freakin’ rockstar through this process. He and his team custom color matched the stain on our cabinets based off of a piece of furniture I saw at World Market. They actually DROVE over there to make sure it matched. That’s dedication right there. If you’re in the Portland area and in need of custom cabinets, look no further than these guys.

I almost didn’t post this picture because I feel like it’s giving a lot away in terms of the design of the kitchen and living room. There’s still lots more to be done, but can we just take a second to talk about the new island-peninsula-thing? I am pretty much obsessed with it. It’s even made to be *just my height* (I’m about 5’11”) so my back won’t hurt in the kitchen anymore!

Last picture today!! My amazing father-in-law installed all of the doors, window frames, and trimmed out this entire room for me so I could see what the finished product is going to look like. I just keep wandering into the room and staring at everything. I LOVE it.

Alright, what do you guys think so far? Does it look different than you thought it would?
