This cocktail could really be considered more of a dessert. It’s rich, smooth and chocolatey and with a rim of chocolate shavings, it’s like eating an alcoholic candy bar. And if that doesn’t sound delectable enough, this martini only calls for 3 ingredients; vodka, chocolate liqueur, and of course, Baileys Irish Cream.

Baileys Irish Cream is a staple ingredient in a lot of popular cocktails. You will see this used in White Russians, Mudslides, and even Irish Coffee. However, in my opinion, it doesn’t get more classic than a Baileys Chocolate Martini! This Irish cream was destined to be paired with chocolatey goodness.

How to make a chocolate shavings rim for your martini

If you are wanting to pull out all the stops for your martini, then you definitely need a rim of chocolate shavings. Here’s what I did for the one you see in the photos.

First, take your favorite chocolate bar or chips and chop them up finely with a knife or food chopper. I love milk chocolate with this dessert cocktail, but you can use any type of chocolate you prefer. Next, you need to coat the rim with a sticky substance so that the chocolate shavings will stick.

Traditionally, for salt or sugar rims I would use lime juice; however, lime and shaved chocolate are not an ideal combination for this drink. For these I used simple syrup and coated the edges. if you don’t have simple syrup you can use regular syrup or make it extra chocolatey by using some chocolate syrup!

What type of chocolate liqueur should I use?

For this dessert martini you can use any chocolate liqueur, however, I would recommend the Godiva chocolate liqueur. It is what I use to make mine and it has this perfect and rich chocolate flavor.
