These “from-scratch” coconut margaritas use lime juice and agave nectar in place of syrupy pre-made mix. Blended with coconut tequila and served with a coconut-salt rim, these tropical drinks will whisk you away to paradise!
If a pina colada and a traditional margarita had a baby, that baby would be these coconut margaritas.
The first time I ever had a coconut margarita was at a little Mexican food joint called Uly’s about 15 minutes from my house. They serve incredible tacos (seriously, as a new vegetarian, their pork tacos are my most frequent fantasy), and they have a basement bar where the bartenders love to get creative.
After taste-tasting a few of their coconut margaritas (in the name of science, of course), I felt confident creating my own recipe at home.
Here’s what in it (left to right): coconut-flavored tequila, Cointreau, freshly squeezed lime juice, and agave nectar.

I know that *technically* I missed National Margarita Day by a day or two, but I never remember to celebrate those crazy holidays. I just love margaritas and I’ll make them whenever I darn well please, thank you very much.
