Today, we’re talking about tragically under-loved recipes. As most food bloggers will tell you, sometimes we are surprised by which recipes make it big and which are total flops.
I don’t mean “flop” in terms of taste ( I wouldn’t post a recipe that didn’t taste good!), but in terms of social sharing and number of times the recipe is viewed.
I thought it would be fun to share with you 5 recipes that just don’t get any love and try to convince you to give them a chance!
Number One:
Egyptian Sweet Puff Pastry Dessert
Okay, so I think I know why people aren’t falling all over themselves to re-pin this one. It looks a little…. weird. And it sounds a little… weird. I don’t know a lot of people who regularly incorporate Egyptian food into their diet, but as someone with a secret love for Egypt and four hieroglyphic tattoos (Thanks, College!) I was pretty pumped to share this recipe with you.
It is made from Puff Pastry + Almonds + Raisins + Coconut + Sugar + Milk. See, all non-scary things, right?
Go check it out and report back if you’re brave enough to give it a try. I promise, it’s super tasty.
Number Two:
Apricot & Date Cream Cheese Coffee Cake
You guys, c’mon. The name even rhymes. How is this not your go-to coffee cake recipe? It has cream cheese. And jam. And dates! Oh, okay. I see how it is. You’re afraid of the dates. Trust me when I tell you that they are delicious! Eating a date is like chewing on honey. Mmmm.
Alright, go take a peak at the recipe and let me know what it is about it that just totally puts you off. This is for research purposes, people. Science and whatnot.
Number Three:
15-Minute Curried Ham with Mangoes
I know you all have leftover ham problems at LEAST twice per year. I can’t be the only one staring at a giant zipper bag of chopped ham after Christmas and Easter wondering what the heck to do with all of it. Obviously the only sensible solution is to cover it in brown sugar, curry powder, and butter. Toss in some ripe mango chunks and throw it under the broiler. Tropical ham party. In your mouth.
With just 5 ingredients and 15 minutes of effort, this recipe deserves your love.
Number Four:
Greek Fish en Papillote
In hindsight, maybe I should have titled it Packet Cooking Greek Fish. Or just anything a little less intimidating than “en Papillote.” Realistically, I didn’t even know what that word meant a year ago so I’m not sure why I expected the internet to freak out over this (delicious) recipe and throw it up on the front page of Reddit.
Did I mention that you can use foil instead of parchment paper? Parchment paper is a bit intimidating, too, right? You guys have to tell me these things! So go check out that recipe, throw the ingredients onto a piece of foil, wrap it up, and put it in the oven. It’s a lot easier than it sounds.
Number Five:
Mexican Chicken Salad with Chipotle-Raspberry Dressing
I just don’t understand you sometimes. It’s heartbreaking, truly. I mean, there are FRIED tortilla strips in this salad. And mango. And spiced chicken. Not to mention the seductive (whoa there!) chipotle-raspberry dressing. It’s a little bit sweet, a little bit sour, and a little bit spicy.
I made and ate this same salad for three days in a row because it is that good. Go look at all the pretty colors and think about your life decisions.

Okay, friends. That’s all for today! I hope you are willing to take a chance on some of these sad, lonely, under-loved recipes who just want someone to love them.
Go try something new!

The Apricot Date bar looks great, I really like both those things.
I’m going to try them.
Awesome! Let me know how you like it, Rosalie. I could have eaten a whole batch by myself!
I’m going to be making that yummy-looking coffeecake, for sure. And your fish dish is right up our alley. We will be giving these 2 some love for sure. 🙂
Awesome!! My work here is done 😉
Personally, I LOVE trying new recipes, especially trying new to me Ethnic cuisine (traveling thru my taste buds!) which is why I love your blog.
Here are my problems with your 5 under-loved recipes.
EGYPTIAN SWEET PUFF PASTRY DESSERT:
1)I rarely buy puff pastry because it is so expensive where I live. When I do, it it usually for our Anniversary to make a special dessert.
2) Husband HATES raisins and coconut and anything bread-pudding-like.
APRICOT & DATE CREAM CHEESE COFFEE CAKE:
1) we both dislike dates
15-MINUTE CURRIED HAM WITH MANGOES:
1) Not a fan of curry
GREEK FISH EN PAPILLOTE:
I’m actually gonna try this one! Somehow I missed it the first time you posted it. We love all of the ingredients in this one!
MEXICAN CHICKEN SALAD WITH CHIPOTLE-RASPBERRY DRESSING:
1) We don’t like anything Chipotle and I personally feel it and Sriracha are overused ingredients these days. There are people out there that don’t like their mouths burnt up to enjoy flavor!
Keep doing what you do I enjoy your blog thoroughly!
Chari, this is great! I love seeing all this feedback. If I could convince each of you to try just one of these recipes, my work here would be done 😉
I totally agree with you, sometimes I’m so excited to hit publish, and then I’m wondering why things don’t get pinned or shared etc. But then I’ll put up something I think is going to bomb, and am completely surprised. I give up trying to understand the internet!! I am particularly surprised your salad is on this list, I could sure go for a huge bowl of it 🙂
Isn’t it so weird, Denise!? I love that salad. I think I’ll have to make some for lunch tomorrow!
You’re hysterical! Going over to check out all five recipies and pin then to my respective boards. Thanks for the foil instead of parchment tip.
Thanks, Amy!! 🙂
