Today, we’re talking about tragically under-loved recipes. As most food bloggers will tell you, sometimes we are surprised by which recipes make it big and which are total flops.
I don’t mean “flop” in terms of taste ( I wouldn’t post a recipe that didn’t taste good!), but in terms of social sharing and number of times the recipe is viewed.
I thought it would be fun to share with you 5 recipes that just don’t get any love and try to convince you to give them a chance!
Number One:
Egyptian Sweet Puff Pastry Dessert
Okay, so I think I know why people aren’t falling all over themselves to re-pin this one. It looks a little…. weird. And it sounds a little… weird. I don’t know a lot of people who regularly incorporate Egyptian food into their diet, but as someone with a secret love for Egypt and four hieroglyphic tattoos (Thanks, College!) I was pretty pumped to share this recipe with you.
It is made from Puff Pastry + Almonds + Raisins + Coconut + Sugar + Milk. See, all non-scary things, right?
Go check it out and report back if you’re brave enough to give it a try. I promise, it’s super tasty.
Number Two:
Apricot & Date Cream Cheese Coffee Cake
You guys, c’mon. The name even rhymes. How is this not your go-to coffee cake recipe? It has cream cheese. And jam. And dates! Oh, okay. I see how it is. You’re afraid of the dates. Trust me when I tell you that they are delicious! Eating a date is like chewing on honey. Mmmm.
Alright, go take a peak at the recipe and let me know what it is about it that just totally puts you off. This is for research purposes, people. Science and whatnot.
Number Three:
15-Minute Curried Ham with Mangoes
I know you all have leftover ham problems at LEAST twice per year. I can’t be the only one staring at a giant zipper bag of chopped ham after Christmas and Easter wondering what the heck to do with all of it. Obviously the only sensible solution is to cover it in brown sugar, curry powder, and butter. Toss in some ripe mango chunks and throw it under the broiler. Tropical ham party. In your mouth.
With just 5 ingredients and 15 minutes of effort, this recipe deserves your love.
Number Four:
Greek Fish en Papillote
In hindsight, maybe I should have titled it Packet Cooking Greek Fish. Or just anything a little less intimidating than “en Papillote.” Realistically, I didn’t even know what that word meant a year ago so I’m not sure why I expected the internet to freak out over this (delicious) recipe and throw it up on the front page of Reddit.
Did I mention that you can use foil instead of parchment paper? Parchment paper is a bit intimidating, too, right? You guys have to tell me these things! So go check out that recipe, throw the ingredients onto a piece of foil, wrap it up, and put it in the oven. It’s a lot easier than it sounds.
Number Five:
Mexican Chicken Salad with Chipotle-Raspberry Dressing
I just don’t understand you sometimes. It’s heartbreaking, truly. I mean, there are FRIED tortilla strips in this salad. And mango. And spiced chicken. Not to mention the seductive (whoa there!) chipotle-raspberry dressing. It’s a little bit sweet, a little bit sour, and a little bit spicy.
I made and ate this same salad for three days in a row because it is that good. Go look at all the pretty colors and think about your life decisions.

Okay, friends. That’s all for today! I hope you are willing to take a chance on some of these sad, lonely, under-loved recipes who just want someone to love them.
Go try something new!

I don’t have all the ingredients now but will try the puff pastry dessert and the apricot and date cream cheese coffee cake as they both sound good. I do make fish in the paper on a regular basis now and it is just delicious. This is my first newsletter from you and I look forward to seeing more of your recipes. Thanks!!
Thanks for following along, Patricia!!
This is such a great post!! All of these beautiful recipes deserve a lot of love, they look delish!! I’m trying that fish FOR SURE!
So I’m not a food blogger, just a pretty darn good amatuer cook. I love this post! Best idea ever! I am going to make the puff pastry dessert, even tho I never use or buy pp. The other ingredients in it sound delish, so I am game. I’m new to your blog, and have to say it’s fresh, innovative, different, and entertaining. Glad I found you and looking forward to making more of your recipes.
I’m new to your list, so I haven’t seen these recipes before. Happy to disclose if the picture and the description give me a cooking yen or not.
The Egyptian mug: I like all the ingredients, but maybe not in a mug? I don’t have a mug just like this, so the end of the world just came for this recipe.
The slice: love dates (omg sticky date pudding with caramel sauce!), but not so much cream cheese. Sometimes I promise myself to make a dish that needs cream cheese, and I buy some. Then I let the cream cheese sit in the fridge for so long that it goes off. Similar response from colleagues – amazing dishes, oh we love this baking they say, but they complain that cream cheese in stuff is too American for them.
Mango curry: we make mango curry often. It’s so nice. But nobody in my family will touch leg ham with a barge pole. Nothing made with it will be eaten. Like the cream cheese. It just dies. I can’t explain why this is when so many other people clearly need leg ham to cap a happy party.
The Greek parcel fish: Looks FABULOUS. I will make this repeatedly. In the kitchen. Or in the BBQ with the lid down.
The Mexi salad: when you say you ate it three days straight I want to try it for myself! But not for any other reason, which is terribly superficial, I know.
Wow, Ivy! Thank you so much for leaving this comment. I really appreciate your insight!
Loved the plea…so I took a second look at the recipes and pinned for the first two 🙂
