Variations

Butter – I use salted butter but you can use unsalted butter, brown butter, or even olive oil if you do not have butter on hand.

Light Brown Sugar – This can easily be substituted with dark brown sugar if that what what you have in your kitchen. You could also use maple syrup as well.

Carrots – I like using baby carrots because it is easier to serve and less cooking time but you can also use larger carrots if you prefer. Just be sure to use fresh carrots and adjust the cooking time if needed.

How to Make Brown Sugar Carrots

Step #1: In a large pot on your stove top over medium-high heat, add the butter, carrots, brown sugar, and water and bring to a boil.

Step #2: Then cover the pan and reduce the heat to a simmer for 5 minutes.

Step #3: After 5 minutes remove the cover and turn the heat back up to medium to cook until all the water has evaporated and the carrots are tender.

Step #4: Add the salt and pepper and cook for 1 minute. Then remove from the heat.

FAQs

What other flavors can I add to these brown sugar carrots?

If you are wanting to add in more flavor some ingredients I would recommend would be ½ a teaspoon of ground cinnamon, a splash of maple syrup for extra sweetness, or even a hint of paprika for a mild smoky flavor.

What can I serve with these brown sugar glazed carrots?

I like serving these carrots alongside a protein like a turkey or a roast chicken, but you can also serve these carrots with shrimp or tofu or even add them to a salad.

Storage Information

You can store any leftovers of your brown sugar carrots in an airtight container in your fridge for 4-5 days. To reheat you can do so on the stovetop over medium heat with a splash of water or pat of butter. You can also reheat in the microwave until everything has warmed through.

You can freeze these carrots in an airtight container in your freezer for up to 2 months. However, note the texture may be slightly altered after being frozen.
