This Kentucky Mule is a refreshing bourbon cocktail made with smooth bourbon, spicy ginger beer, and fresh lime juice. The bourbon adds warm caramel, vanilla, and oak notes that pair beautifully with the bright citrus and bold ginger flavor.

I love recipes that incorporate bourbon such as this one. For more bourbon recipes you have to check out my Caramel Apple Bourbon Cocktail, Thai Bourbon and Ginger Cocktail, and Bourbon Pecan Tart.

Why You Will Love This Kentucky Mule

  • Only 3 ingredients are needed and you don’t need a cocktail shaker to make this drink.
  • Caramel and vanilla notes from the bourbon pair naturally with the bold ginger flavor.
  • Fresh lime juice brightens the drink and balances the sweetness and warmth of the other ingredients.

Recipe Ingredients

Close up of a Kentucky Mule.

Kentucky Bourbon – By using bourbon as the liquor in this cocktail it creates a deeper and warmer flavor.

Fresh Lime Juice – A zesty and tangy addition to this mule cocktail that ties all the flavors together.

Ginger Beer – That bold and spicy mixer that gives any mule it’s classic taste. I recommend using high-quality ginger beer for the best taste.

FAQs

What is the difference between a Kentucky Mule and a Moscow Mule?

The main difference is the liquor. A Kentucky Mule uses bourbon, while a Moscow Mule uses vodka, giving the Kentucky version a warmer, richer flavor.

Can I use ginger ale instead of ginger beer in my Kentucky Mule?

You can, however you will not achieve the same overall flavor. It will be sweeter and less of that classic mule spiciness.

Storage Information

You can store any leftovers of this Kentucky Mule drink in an airtight container in your fridge for up to 24 hours. Note, because the ginger beer has carbonation it is best enjoyed when made.
